Here’s a fun and cheap project of using (recycling) paper cups and a pair of spare earphones to make your own speakers. All you need to do is to cut a cross (X) at the base of the paper cup, insert the ear-buds, and you’re done! For the speaker holder, I simply place it on top of another paper cup, but you can use a toothpick/sticky tape to attach them together.

The sound amplification wasn’t very big, only audible when increasing my sound volume to max levels. I suggest positioning the speakers closer to your ears and playing it in a quiet office environment.

The design was fairly simple and it took me around 2 hours to assemble. The hard part was attaching the head with the body, however long fingers should help. The mouth/teeth was an optional attachment and the black whiskers could do a little trim to make it look a bit closer to the original, but thats up to you!

Pepakura (ぺぱくら), or Papercrafting is a method of crafting 3D models using paper, similar to Origami (おりがみ). It is different to Origami because the model is made from pieces of cut-out card paper and glued together. Papercrafting is popular in Japan, and the Internet has made it even popular because the model templates can easily be downloaded and printed out on any printer. Think of it as a way to express 3D artwork over the Internet.

So i downloaded a template and tried making my first Chihuahua papercraft. It turn out it was very easy to make. It can be done using materials that everyone has, and i dont have to spend much (20 cents) to make a cool art decoration. The instructions were simple, very hands-on, very time-wasting and the outcome was satifying!!
